An early 9am start for this 10 miler at with limited parking. Not to be outdone I got there just before 8 and got a nice parking space next to start and finish. It’s one of those races where you collect race numbers on the day and they were available just after 8 so not really too much time to get sorted. This is made even worse as no changing or baggage areas so quite a challenge to get prepared.
This race was fully booked by the end of last year so I was expecting a big field so imagine my surprise to only seeing 176 finishers – can only assume many local runners had over celebrated at the Cheltenham races last night !
The weather was a bit cooler than I thought it would be and typically of any airfield it was windy – in fact blowing a gale and even looked like rain. Fortunately it didn’t rain and about 30 minutes into the race the sun came out with a clear blue sky.
The course is undulating and terrain included roads, paths and muddy farm tracks – 2 x 5 mile loops. I had hoped my second lap would be a negative split but alas legs did not kick in at mile 7 as expected.
Overall the course and organisation is good but just lacks on the changing and low number of toilets. Race HQ is the onsite pub / restaurant so not all bad.

Race Report from the Chairman!
I can only comment from a spectator/organisation point of view- Shambolic. To the organisers credit, the race went ahead but the course had to be adjusted, which meant 9 laps of the track, 6 laps of the field and a dash to the finish. Needless to say asking runners to count and keep track didn’t really work, with some runners doing extra laps (Calum, Lucy, Lisa) and some less and then running in opposite directions on a narrow path and across slippery fields. I only counted half a dozen marshals, and NO first aid. So praise indeed for those who competed, and we won the “Team” prize, (most men and women from one club I think) which I promptly dropped!!!! Well it was cold………..

Bushy Parkrun
This was the very first Parkrun and is a single 5km flat lap around Bushy Park (near Teddington).
There were 1380 runners including Paul Sinton-Hewitt (Parkrun founder).
It is very well organised with a wide start and surprisingly congestion was not a problem after the first few hundred meters. Recommended to all Parkrun addicts!
