Thank you to Rachel Pollard, our sports reporter for the day. What a scoop… Enjoy 🙂
And on to the second indoor fixture of the winter season, this time at Kidlington. The sports centres do tend to blur a bit, Kidlington is the one with a coffee machine, plenty of parking, no door at our end of the hall and a nice pool and sauna (for parents who can find a gap between watching events).
The second event has a great flow: we’re back in the swing of things. Parents have remembered to layer clothes and bring snacks; athletes are comfortable with finding their events. There is always a little buzz of pride as our athletes kick off proceedings by demonstrating the obstacle event.
It’s still early in the season with new teams and athletes finding their feet (no pun intended) in their new age groups, but favourite events were picked up again and new favourites discovered. There were some really confident performances, and great moments – practiced parlauff runner Jack supporting new U13 Jacob, the U11 boys back on form for the obstacle (they were second at the last fixture, the first time in 2 years they hadn’t won). Well done also to Bethany and new U13 Macy, who had a great win in the parlauff. As a point of interest, the U11 girls, U11 boys and U13 girls came away with maximum points from the speed bounce, and the U11 girls and boys gained maximum points in the javelin. Top points were also scored in U13 girls 6 lap, long jump and shot put, and the U13B shot put.
Congratulations go to the following athletes for achieving PBs – Lily & Edie in speed bounce, Skye, Rebecca & Edouard in shot put, and Embry, Jack, Tom, Edie and Macy in long jump.
After two events, Witney are in 2nd place in the U11s, 1st place in the U13s, and 2nd place in the U15 girls. A great team effort all round.
Well done to all the athletes, special shout out to sports hall first timers Luca, Thomas and Archie.
On to the next one which is January 12th at the Windrush leisure centre. Bring on the home advantage!
