Message from our Race Director
What an unprecedented year we have all been thrust into. After a record start to Cotswold Classic entries we have, understandably, seen a record slump as uncertainty over any racing continues.
We have had great support from our suppliers and partners which meant we have been able to patiently wait, hoping for the lockdown guidance to change.
This week an England Athletics webinar suggested some of the additional measures that might be in place to enable a return to racing. As a team, we have considered not only the potential restrictions but the wider perception of the communities we would run through, should limits be lifted. We appreciate that not everyone will be ready for racing to return, even if it is permitted.
We are proud of the fantastic reputation the Cotswold Classic has built and do not want to damage that or compromise the fantastic event experience we love providing you all. As a result, we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 installment of the Cotswold Classic. No one is more disappointed than me; this isn’t what I’d had in mind as my first year as Race Director.
A big thanks to our race committee members Steve, Lyn, Regina, Tamsyn & WRR Chairman, John for their enthusiasm & support. We have all committed to double-down and make the 2021 edition of the Cotswold Classic an even more amazing day, helped by our headline sponsor, Bronsens, continuing their support for the race.
Thanks also to everyone who had entered this year’s race; we were overwhelmed by the pre-virus response. We will automatically roll forward your entries to the 2021 event which, thanks to our venue, The Kings School, has a provisional date of Saturday 4th September 2021.
Keep an eye on our social media for more information about our future plans and if you have any questions please get in touch via social media or directly to me on wrrdanw@gmail.com
Stay fit & healthy and the team and I look forward to welcoming you back for the Bronsens Cotswold Classic 2021!
Dan, Cotswold Classic Race Director
