England Athletics Virtual Road Relay
With restrictions forever changing, real racing seems like a long way off still so it was great to see the club grasp the opportunity to come together for a national virtual event.
I know a few of you who’d signed up couldn’t make it and a couple of you weren’t able to log results but in the end we had 41 members post an official result – that meant we were the 6th best represented club in England out of 172 clubs who took part (59 runners would’ve put us top).
It was a shame to see no other Oxfordshire clubs in the results but we flew the flag for the county admirably. Our fastest 4 men and 4 women formed our “scoring” team and we came 37th out of the 128 clubs who fielded complete teams. That’s no mean feat with the country’s biggest, fastest clubs really putting on a show!
Well done to our scorers:
Dan Blake | 25.56 |
Joe Godwood | 26.03 |
Hugo Jinks | 27.57 |
Sam Upton | 28.02 |
Matt Lock | 28.15 |

Stephen Young | 29.24 |
Frankie Snare | 30.59 |
Isabel Stubbs | 31.29 |

Regina Lally | 48.30 |
Lee Vanstone | 48.57 |
It’s worth highlighting a few particularly great age category performances:
Dan Blake led the VM40 for most of the “race”, beaten late on to come 2nd VM40.
Hugo Jinks couldn’t quite sneak into the U17M top 10.
Alan Reynolds was 6th fastest VM60 overall.
And Team Le Good had a great outing with Judith finishing 3rd VW65 and Graham 4th VM65.
With our scoring team finishing in the Top 50 clubs, they have earned us all a go in the final round of the competition which takes place in February. Once details are confirmed I’ll post them but essentially it’s another free-to-enter 5 mile virtual run – you don’t have to run the same course and you can join in even if you didn’t get a chance this time.
I’m going to attempt the same course to see if I can squeeze some more time out of my legs and it’d be great to see Witney up there in the results again.
