I have been a member of WRR for several years now and I’ve loved every minute of being part of such a fun and sociable club. My running has improved considerably thanks mainly to Tuesday nights’ ever grueling effort sessions, but also just being able to run with others of all abilities out and about around Witney.
Before WRR I had only ever run on road convinced that trails and XC were not for the likes of me – dodgy ankles and knees, too many trip hazards and far too much mud. Cajoled, coerced and bullied into signing up for XC by Lindsey saw me find an absolute love for the challenge of the off-road routes. The camaraderie at the XC series is second to none, as is the culinary skills of many club bakers!
But all good things must come to an end and we find ourselves moving at the end of June to the Isle of Bute to run a 10 bedroomed guest house. There is a parkrun (Mount Stuart), there are hills and plenty of lovely hiking and biking countryside with some fabulous trails. There is a cycling challenge called The Serpentine if any of you fancied trying – it’s not long but it is brutal.
With a population of 6,000 the island is 15mile by 5 so it’s not exactly big but has lots to see and do! We welcome any members of the club who find their way heading north, and if you come out of season (October to March) we could pretty much guarantee availability, just pay for your brekkie and a nominal charge for the room.
It has been a pleasure running with each and every one of you, making friends and sharing experiences and we hope to welcome some of you to our new home in the future.
Soon to be at The Ardyne, Mount Stuart Road, Rothesay, Isle of Bute.
