We have had terrific participation in the league so far this year, with over 30 league finishers already. Since there are a few popular races still to come we might even get to 50 league finishers, so get your race entries in!
Just a few reminders as we head into the tail end of the league (5 races left):
1. Completing the league. You need to run at least 8 races to complete the league and qualify for the finisher memento.
2. Age grading. Your score for each race is simply your age grading for that race. The age grading is a percentage score that is calculated from a combination of race distance, sex, time and age (on race day). Age gradings are quite widely used nowadays (e.g. at all parkrun events), and provide a fun way to compare performances irrespective of age and gender. The higher the age grading, the better the performance. A value of 100% is considered the best possible performance for a runner of a specific age and sex for that race distance (the theoretical “world’s best” time). Aside from letting us all compete against each other regardless of age and sex, age gradings also make it much easier for individual runners to compare their own performances and set their own personal goals.
3. Total score. Your total score is calculated from the sum of your best 10 races (i.e. your 10 best age grading scores). So to maximise your total score you will want to run 10 (or more) races. Overall prizes for the league will be based on the final total scores.
4. Half marathon wildcard. With the cancellation of the White Horse Half Marathon, we introduced a “wildcard” half marathon entry in the league. So if you run any half marathon event (NB: with appropriate event license), you can submit that result to me for entry into the league. Deadline for wildcard submissions is October 20th 2023.
