12:30pm Sunday 24th July, Radley College Track
This popular event is back for 2022. An opportunity for the WRR Senior and Junior Sections to come together for the day and…. race each other!
What is it, I hear you ask?! Don’t be put off by the word ‘marathon’ – none of us will do that individually. Each relay team (Seniors v. Juniors) will run a marathon distance over the track and whichever team runs it the quickest, wins! What does this mean for you… well, we need as many Seniors as possible to take part so that each individual has to run less distance overall.
How does it work?
The marathon relay is 104.5 laps of the 400m track.
Each lap is split into 4x100m sprints.
So each runner will run 4x100m sprints, then come off and join the back of the queue, to then, if necessary do another 4x100m sprints when their turn comes up again. At any one time there are 4 Seniors and 4 Juniors on the track racing their laps.
The Seniors would love to have 40-50 runners in our team as that means we all run about 2-3 laps and have fresher legs to have a chance of beating the Juniors. They may be small, but they are speedy! The event is on Spond and so far we have 17…. 6 laps each! Please sign up and join in the fun!
Any questions, please ask Bertie Field or John Mac (or pop a post on the Spond group).
