Sunday 12th May 2019
Venue to be advised, but will be a pub in Witney
Orienteering. Now don’t be put off, read on. This terrific sport is high tech and challenging at the higher levels, but great fun and a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours on a sunny Sunday morning in May.
£5 per couple or £3 each if you want to do it solo. You have an allocated start time. Collect your map and punchcard from me 15 minutes before your start time. On the map will be 10 “locations” circled. Within each location will be a bright orange flag, and a plastic punch. The idea is to collect all 10 punch patterns(they are all different)before returning to the finish. The route between flags is up to you, and you don’t have to collect them all if you’re getting fed up or lost.
The area covered will NOT be difficult, and the flags will NOT be hidden. You will all be familiar with the territory, and it will not be further than 5 country miles (!), unless you decide on a strange route! The beauty is you can go any which way you like, you don’t have to start with No 1. There can be cross country and/or roadrunning.
The general idea is a challenging but fun way to enjoy a multi-terrain run with a bit of map reading/navigating thrown in.
There will be a few minutes between each departure, so you don’t just follow someone else. You go the best way you think!!
This really is great fun and if popular is something we can develop, perhaps make more challenging over bigger distances, but the idea is to start small scale, and see if people like it.
First start time will probably be 9.30, but depends on how many entries I get, The idea is to get everybody back safely between 12 and 1 o clock.
I will put reminders in the Newsletter every week from now on, and we will announce at the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Can you please let me know by e-mail, phone or verbally as soon as possible, or let the Team Captains or a Committee member know, so that I can plan printing of maps and start times etc.
Come along and have a go!!
Cheers
